I think when I cycled to work I was at my fittest. Cycling from Marchmont to Fairmilehead was a bit of a challenge, but it certainly paid off in fitness :)

I watched eight episodes on Glee on one flight alone. So in theory, had I been truly committed, I could have watched >24 (I didn't start at the beginning of the flight, and on emirates the tv will work during takeoff and landing) which would have taken me well into the second series!

Sounds like Jane Eyre is worth a watch then. I had avoided it as it was some way from the original. Maybe I have to forget the book and view it as a new tale, well told?
Phew, that's a lot of in-flight viewing though

Despite most of my cycling gear, being further on the black side than it probably should, I always try and make sure that the jacket arms and gloves have relective strips or dots.

Puncture repair is fairly beastly, but as there is no economic equivalent to the AA for bikes, it is a skill which may be worth cultivating, seeing as you are biking regularly.
Not necessarily worth sitting down and actually doing it for real, but watching a few videos on YouTube would suffice to pick up handy hints etc (I'm sure there are loads of "how-to" videos out there)
A man on the radio said, only yesterday, just follow the instructions in the tyre repair kit APART from the "let the vulcanising solution dry" bit! Apparently it works best if it's claggy.

there was a fair degree of groaning and creaking even from these limber yoofs getting on and off that floor. What D hasn't mentioned is that that is exactly what the bed was like too (although at least in the privacy of one's own room there's scope for an ungainly roll onto all fours and clamber up).

Everyone in China squats. If you are waiting somewhere, for something, or just generally passing time, you squat. Feet flat on the ground, legs all folded up, arms planked on top on knees, bum against ankles. Joy, Ali's girlfriend, was a bit astonished to hear that 'white people couldn't squat'....which is to say we've none of us ever practised so it becomes very sore, very quickly. So perhaps daily descent to ankle height keeps you limber. But saying that, the oldies we did see seemed as stiff and frail as any wee Glasgow lady.
